No Experience Needed To Get Offshore Oil Rig Jobs

Are you trying to get offshore oil rig jobs? Regardless of the recession, there are still plenty of jobs. If you aren't getting any interviews, maybe you have been looking in the wrong places. Offshore drilling companies like Transocean have $33 billion worth of outstanding orders on their books, and Exxon is spending money like water ($79 million per day on oil exploration). With oil companies spending this kind om money, you can bet there are jobs available.

A job is a job is a job. If you have no experience, then you start at the bottom. Offshore oil rig jobs are no different. If you don't have any relevant skills, look for entry level roustabout jobs. The work is hard and dirty, and there's lots of heavy lifting involved. But you know what? You'll be earning somewhere around $45,000 a year, better than some white collar jobs.

Not only that, you can actually get promoted to higher paying jobs. Work hard and smart for one to two years, and you can become a roughneck. There is still a lot of hard, physical work, but you will also supervise a team of roustabouts. In addition, you will help the derrickhands and drillers to do their jobs. Play your cards right, and this could get you promoted to driller in 5 to 10 years. Not only is the driller the number 2 man on an oil rig, he earns at least double the salary of a roustabout.

Don't have a university degree? No problem. It's better to go for a certified trade like an electrician or a mechanic. Work in the electrical department or motor room of an oil rig and you earn two times more money than doing the same job in another industry. The same goes for certified welders - $62,000 on an offshore oil rig vs $30,000 in manufacturing. Other entry level offshore oil rig jobs like cooks and medics also pay very well.

Knowing a bit of maritime law can be useful. No need to become a rules lawyer, but offshore oil rigs legally count as ships at sea and there are differences from the law on dry land. Don't forget to check out your tax situation with a good tax lawyer - at one point of time, there were very good tax incentives for people taking up offshore jobs. You may also need vaccinations, first aid certifications, offshore survival certifications, firefighting certifications and helicopter underwater escape training certifications. The paperwork requirements are different from country to country, and from state to state.

No experience? No problem. The main thing is to know which companies are hiring for offshore oil rig jobs, not your experience. Show the right attitude, start with an entry level job, prove yourself, get promoted, and earn even more money.
